What is the difference between Linux and Unix and Windows hosting?
Answer:
While the dominant operating system for home computers is Windows, the needs of servers are much more different.
Many will argue the inherent benefits of either operating system, but for most small and mid-sized websites, either operating system will be adequate for your needs.
The choice then depends on what your needs are.
For those that need tight integration with Microsoft products such as .NET, MS SQL, MS Access, and so forth, Windows-based web hosting is your only solution.
On the flip side, as Linux is free (which does not equate into less support and/or inferior quality), Windows web hosting is usually more expensive. Linux is a much more common choice with web hosts, and this means that finding help and support is usually much easier.
So it really boils down to what you need. If you need MS product support, Windows web hosting is your only option. Otherwise Linux web hosting will likely be a better choice.
